Magic Johnson Shares Honest Thoughts on Los Angeles Lakers’ Huge Problems After Disappointing Playoff Exit vs Nuggets
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers will always be one of the most popular NBA teams due to the stars that have played and won for the Purple and Gold. The legacy they have built over the past fifty years isn’t something that can easily be overwritten by whichever team is lording over the league.

While it hasn’t been more than five years since the Lakers won their last championship, their current core of LeBron James and Anthony Davis are getting up there in age. After losing in five games to the Denver Nuggets, many are wondering if the Lakers can still win a championship with their current roster.

One of the team’s legends got honest about the team’s chances, and his thoughts don’t bode well for the faithful fans of the Purple and Gold.

Magic Johnson points out the biggest issue the Los Angeles Lakers have right now

Magic Johnson is a beloved figure within the Lakers organization. He was the face of the franchise during the team’s Showtime Lakers era, winning them multiple championships in the process.

He keeps up with everything the Lakers are going through, and shares his thoughts on the team’s form over the past couple of seasons.

Per Fadeaway World’s Vishwesha Kumar, Magic tweeted out what he believed were the biggest problems for the Lakers moving forward:

“Laker Nation, we have a problem. All the good teams in the West are young and talented: the Nuggets, the Timberwolves, the Thunder, and the Mavs.”

“And the BIGGEST elephant in the room is the Spurs, who with Victor Wembanyama, will definitely be a playoff team next season. For the Lakers to compete with all these teams, the roster MUST improve.”

Johnson is right with his takes. While the Lakers are still winning regular-season games with James and Davis, the rest of the team cannot keep up with the rest of the competition out west. What’s worse is that LeBron is reportedly flirting with the idea of entering free agency this summer.

What makes this situation an even more bitter pill to swallow for the Lakers is the fact that they did have an exciting young core of players before the Lakers moved for LeBron and AD. Nowadays, players like Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, and Jordan Clarkson are thriving elsewhere.

It’s still uncertain what the Los Angeles Lakers will do in the offseason, but they’ll have a tough road ahead of them as they prepare to fight for one more championship next season.
